Spring 2013 Clean up trip
May 5 ( Cinco de Mayo) was the fourth of fifth amazing day in a row, and the trail in from Mill Brook was the driest I have ever seen it. Passed a bunch of people carting canoes, some of which had luck catching brookies and lakers.
At the lean-to there was a couple down by the water, one a more seasoned hiker, the other a stalwart trooper by his side. We chatted about the many times we had been to the lake and enjoyed the various lean-tos and all the amazing trails in the area. After they left in mid afternoon, I never saw another soul (the pleasure of a Sunday night in the woods) for the remainder of my trip. Actually make that not another human soul, for there was plenty of loons, breaching lunker lake trout, owls, geese, and other woodland friends to keep me company.
I took a quick trip up to Watch Rock, and contemplated moving there to finally spend a night in that spot, but decided I would stay put in #6, and save Watch Rock for when I was with a crowd big enough to fill it up. I had planned on heading there to shoot some time lapse videos, but since there was not a cloud in the sky, they would have been pretty boring, and would be best left for a nice puffy cloud day.
Dinner was in a mexican vein for the cinco de mayo spirit and tortilla chips with salsa, guacamole, and quesadillas were the perfect way to spend the evening. I shot some pictures around the lean-to, including some timelapses of the shadows in the trees and my first attempt at a night sky timelapse of the stars with the lake catching some of their reflections. Got lucky and it came out pretty sweet. There were actually a fair amount of planes cruising over the lake (to a Vermont airport like Rutland or Burlington?) which added to the cool factor of the video. I will post it up in a few days time when I edit all the little clips together.
Also I will post some of the stills by themselves, a bunch of which came out nice and give a good view and flavor to what a trip in to Pharaoh Lake is like. All in all, a great trip and it was nice to see the new lean-to in such great shape, and I imagine it will serve people well. I do plan to return with a flat shovel for ash removal that I will leave in the lean-to, and maybe a broom as well, though they never seem to last as long.

Hello Guests and Friends of Pharaoh Lake Lean-to #6!
This humble little piece of the interwebs is now the experimental online register, or cloud journal, of the Pharaoh Lake Lean-to #6. As the lean-to adopter of this lean-to, I plan to post my bi-yearly maintenance trips, photos, videos, gps points of interest, and whatever else happens at the lean-to and around the lake and woods that surround it. We'll call it the Register Extended.
Which means it is open for anyone to sign! And please add links to pictures or videos from your stay!
This is the beta version/work in progress/trial run/let's see what happens experiment, but I will try to check in and keep postings timely, and keep things tidy.
Hope you had a pleasant stay and Happy Trails!
